THE HAPPY MAN

New York: Random House, 1986. First edition. Paperback. Illustrated wrappers; 8vo. 79 pp. First trade paper edition issued simultaneously with the hardcover which is quite scarce. Signed by the poet. Very near fine copy, never read. Kelleher A-25. Near fine. Item #11173

Hall comments in Kelleher that this "is his best miscellaneous book of poems". His first book with Random House, after leaving Harper Collins because his longtime editor had been fired, his new editor Jonathan Gallassi (now publisher of FS&G, and a major figure in the poetry world) was fired, and the book in the hands of a third editor had poor sales. It would go on to win the Lenore Marshall Prize.
