About Us

I am a full-time bookseller specializing in literary firsts, especially poetry, important fiction, fine printing and publishing ephemera; with a particular interest in signed/inscribed books, association copies, small and fine press, and advanced and uncorrected proof copies.

All domestic orders are shipped free of charge. Overseas shipped at approximate cost. You can usually reach me by phone during the day, from 10 to 6 ET. I enjoy talking directly with my customers, and am happy to answer questions by phone or email. Although I do not have an open shop, customers are very welcome by appointment.

I accept most credit cards, PayPal, money orders or checks.  Institutions are billed according to need.

I am always buying interesting books, individually and as a collection, in my field of interest.

Want lists in my field are welcomed. If you would like to be on my mailing list (both paper and/or electronic) please email me at AlexanderBooks@Charter.net.

Mark Alexander:

My bookselling career began shortly after graduate school; I became a manager of the Book & Record Store in New Paltz, NY store. After three years, learning the rudiments of running a small business, and reading all those books I had missed in college, I became a sales representative for Random House.

I worked for Random House for 27 years; much of that time as a Divisional Manager on both coasts, working with mostly independent bookstores. At Random House - not the current behemoth, but even then the largest publisher (with Knopf, Pantheon, and many other imprints under its umbrella), I got to read many books before publication in manuscript or proof. Always a book collector, from a family of collectors, I left to pursue my current business in 2003; at first modern literature, but early on primarily poetry.

Originally located in Vermont, where I was president of the booksellers association, VABA, I now live in NC in a small historic (and literary) city in the Durham/Chapel Hill area.
